Houston Llew Spiritiles: Ms.

Houston Llew Spiritiles

“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” —Marilyn Monroe

Every Spiritile has its own story that inspires, uplifts, and brings a hopeful connection to life. Handcrafted in Charleston, each is made with finely ground colored glass that is hand-painted, fused to copper in a kiln at 1500 degrees, and then wrapped around a wooden frame (see more here). Spiritiles can be hung on the wall or displayed freestanding, and withstand direct sun, humidity, and even outdoor conditions. Care and hanging information here.

Artist Statement About This Piece: I was wandering through Neiman Marcus by the shoe department, and this lady’s shoe fell like this and I saw a “M” & a “S” (for Ms.)... As I was staring at the shoes when the associate helping her tapped me on the shoulder. I looked up and the poor woman was practically gasping at me; like I was some creep fulfilling a foot fetish... I thought about explaining myself, but instead just sincerely apologized as I left.
