Houston Llew Spiritiles: Fair Winds

Houston Llew Spiritiles

“Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.” —Rumi

Every Spiritile has its own story that inspires, uplifts, and brings a hopeful connection to life. Handcrafted in Charleston, each is made with finely ground colored glass that is hand-painted, fused to copper in a kiln at 1500 degrees, and then wrapped around a wooden frame (see more here). Spiritiles can be hung on the wall or displayed freestanding, and withstand direct sun, humidity, and even outdoor conditions. Care and hanging information here.

Artist Statement About This Piece: Inevitably, at some point in our lives, situations and circumstances are out of our control. The forces of nature direct the course of events beyond our forecasts, and we are surprised by the unexpected. This is true in every aspect of our lives—in our parenting, our friendships, our work, our travels, and within ourselves. This quote by Rumi is beautifully shown through the dandelion, which holds onto its seeds until it is time to release control, and hope for fair winds to carry its creations to fertile soil.
