Houston Llew Spiritiles: Take Off!

Houston Llew Spiritiles

“What if I fall? Oh, but what if you fly!” —Erin Hanson

Every Spiritile has its own story that inspires, uplifts, and brings a hopeful connection to life. Handcrafted in Charleston, each is made with finely ground colored glass that is hand-painted, fused to copper in a kiln at 1500 degrees, and then wrapped around a wooden frame (see more here). Spiritiles can be hung on the wall or displayed freestanding, and withstand direct sun, humidity, and even outdoor conditions. Care and hanging information here.

Artist Statement About This Piece: Poetry exists within the hearts of young and old, and in the case of this poet, a wise heart in young form. Erin’s works uplift just like the bluebird’s wings in Take Off!—setting sights on the air and focusing on the positive possibilities: “There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask, ‘What if I fall?’ Oh, but my darling, What if you fly?”
