“The world tells you to hurry. Art tells you to take your time. Always listen to the art.” —Junot Diaz
Every Spiritile has its own story that inspires, uplifts, and brings a hopeful connection to life. Handcrafted in Atlanta, each is made with finely ground colored glass that is handpainted, fused to copper in a kiln at 1500 degrees, and then wrapped around a wooden frame (see more here). Spiritiles can be hung on the wall or displayed freestanding, and withstand direct sun, humidity, and even outdoor conditions. Care and hanging information here.

Artist Statement About This Piece: Quite often our days rush past with a steady blur of deadlines and to-do lists. At the end of it, we mark off the ‘done,’ move others to tomorrow, and start the rush all over again. Two things I know for sure can’t be rushed—one is a rainbow and the other is art. Just like that rare moment when a falling spray of raindrops collides with brilliant rays of sunlight to create a cacophony of color in the sky, the moment a perfect inspiration intersects with the brush or word or melody, the result is more than a sum of its parts. It’s exponential. That peak experience—whether as creator or fortunate recipient—requires only that you lay aside your ‘list’ and open up your senses. Take your time and the art will speak. You can’t rush a rainbow!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Through fortuitous circumstances, Spiritiles creator Houston Llew met the master enamelist Zingaro and learned the craft of glass enameling. His artistry has evolved from enameled imagery to a combined image and story design. This has become the cornerstone of his work.
